Project Funding

The Construction Growth Foundation (CGF) provides funding to projects that strengthen skills, pathways, and collaboration across New Zealand’s construction industry.

Funding is available primarily to CGF member associations, with a focus on initiatives that improve industry capability beyond vocational training.

Application Form - Project Funding
    • Priority will be given to applications from CGF association members.

    • Applications from non-CGF organisations may be considered, subject to the applicant demonstrating engagement with, and support/benefit for CGF association member/s.

    • Applications from individuals, or individual companies will not be considered.

    • This funding is not available in conjunction with other CGF funding options.

    • Funds cannot be used to fund organisational operations (staffing, overheads, etc).

    • Funds may be used to engage contractor/s in support of project outcomes.

    • Applicants must demonstrate that project outcomes will benefit more than just the applying organisation and/or industry they represent.

    • The intended outcomes from a CGF-funded project must align with at least one of CGF’s strategic objectives:

      o      Improving Skills and Pathways

      o      Collaboration

      o      Future State and sustainable

    • Organisations that operate as Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs, ‘providers’) (Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs), Private Training Establishments (PTEs), Wānanga, and Universities) cannot apply for funds for delivery of training that would ordinarily be funded from Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and learner enrolment fees.

    • Funding requests will not be considered when the request is to support core trade or vocational training i.e. up to and including Level 4 on the NZQA framework. CGF’s focus is on supporting post-qualification capability development, which does include further education and training.

    Important note:

If you feel your application has merit, and the outcomes would add value in construction, but it may not exactly align with the criteria, please contact us for a discussion.

  • Decision-making procedure

A summary of the application, and a recommendation will be presented to CGF for decision. CGF will consider the application and recommendation in the context of CGF’s purpose, priorities and strategic objectives.

The decision will be one of the following: Declined; Pending (further information); Conditional Approval; or Approved.

Declined – CGF believe the application does not align with CGF’s purpose and/or strategic pillar/s. The unsuccessful applicant will be encouraged to submit future application/s that align with CGF’s purpose, and in line with this process. An unsuccessful applicant may seek clarification on the decision to decline, but there is no provision for appealing the decision.

Pending – CGF may request further information to enable a decision to be made. The further information required will be explained in the outcome letter, and CGF will work with the applicant to ensure this is forthcoming. The application will be re-presented to CGF for a decision.

Conditional Approval – This decision applies when CGF approves the application, subject to certain conditions. This may include CGF seeking clarification on matter/s relating to the application, and/or providing clarity on expectations regarding the use of the funds. Conditional Approval does not require CGF to re-consider the application.

Approved – This applies when CGF is satisfied that the application aligns with the goals of CGF, and the value of the outcomes and outputs will serve the industry well.

    • Applicants will be informed of the outcome following the decision by CGF. This will be communicated to the applicant within seven (7) days of the decision.

    • A Funding Agreement will be developed between the successful applicant and CGF. The Funding Agreement will identify each parties’ responsibilities, project milestones, reporting requirements, and progress payments. No funds will be released by CGF until the Funding Agreement is complete.

  • As CGF establishes further processes, and refines existing ones, cyclical reviews should be implemented. Irrespective of that, this process should be reviewed within six months of implementation, then annually thereafter, to ensure the outcomes continue to support CGF’s purpose.
