Kia ora Subscriber First Name Today, ConCOVE Tūhura and the Construction Growth Foundation (CGF) are releasing ConstrucTrend 2025, a new national workforce skills survey covering carpentry, electrical, and plumbing/gasfitting/drainlaying. Based on responses from 357 employers and tradespeople, the research shows that while trade-specific technical skills remain strong, persistent gaps exist in planning, compliance, costing, business capability, and people leadership—skills that directly affect productivity, safety, and business sustainability. The findings also highlight how quickly tradespeople are moving into business ownership, often within five years of completing an apprenticeship, and the uneven uptake of new and green technologies across the sector. These trends raise important questions about how well current training and support pathways prepare people not just to qualify, but to operate sustainable businesses.
